You Are The Expert Conference 2008
"Celebrating Families and Professionals,
The Heart of Success"

April 4 - 5, 2008

Lynnwood Convention Center
3711 196th Street SW
Lynnwood, WA 989036

On April 4-5, 2008, PAVE hosted its annual “You Are The Expert” conference at the convention center in Lynnwood, WA. Parents, Youth, Professionals and PAVE staff enjoyed the networking, educational opportunities, food, fun and socialization. Visit our YATE 2008 Photo Gallery for some excellent images taken at the event.

We heard many positive comments including: “I am glad I attended, ‘cause I met heart warming people and learned a lot.”
“Excellent! There were too many things I learned. What an excellent conference!”
“I really enjoyed the conference. It was a great and memorable experience.”
“I enjoyed the different classes.”

And people said some of the things they learned were:

  • Simple stress relievers
  • Recognizing depression signs in teens
  • How to prepare for due process
  • How to prevent and connect with a child considering suicide
  • About the OSPI Ombudsman
  • How to advocate for family members and others
  • About Strengthening Families through Early Care

Friday and Saturday mornings’ keynote speakers shared important information from their personal and professional lives. Kimmer Gordon and Ken Larson provided insight into some of the struggles and successes of living with disabilities, and Josh Brothers presented information about the state of the State of Washington in the various areas affecting people who have disabilities.

Friday evening’s reception and silent auction offered a great opportunity for everyone to become better acquainted, take a break, and unwind in a friendly, relaxing atmosphere. It was also the time to enjoy the terrific band, Voices of the Village, who played dance music in the Hawaiian atmosphere that hosted the youth. Adults were also drawn to the music and dancing. Some joined the band to play along using the extra instruments Voices of the Village provided.

The resource hall offered a variety of displays of services, information, and materials. The Disability History Wall was one of the exhibits. It is an extremely interesting documentary of the progress of the disability movement throughout the years.

PAVE also honored the “You Make a Difference” awards winners as well as those who received award certificates. Take a look at their pictures and stories.
